Who we are
Who ARE we? Where do I even start?
If you had of told me 10 years ago that I would be creating a website section about our dream business being available to the world I would have breathed a sarcastic scoff, rolled my eyes, and walked away. This isn’t supposed to happen for a backwoods girl from Mississippi, but here we are. I will try to explain this blessed story as best as I can, though I hardly think they have room for a book on here.
My name is Madison Taylor and my husband is Ryan, a blue collared worker from Kalamazoo MI. Yes, it does really exist…. We met and married in 2015 as two younguns, dumb and in love, after his family moved south to my home town. Living on love took on a whole new meaning when, at the end of every week, we had $26 left to buy groceries on, but we didn’t care. One of us would hold the calculator while the other pushed the buggy, all the while trying not to get kicked out for PDA. He worked hard at a local metal company while I, newly unemployed, enjoyed being out of a miserable 2-year work culture for a few weeks. As we rode backroads one evening (our favorite free pastime) he lovingly brings up the elephant in the little red sanoma as we approached our downtown square; I needed a job… I was so happy to be free of my last job I hadn’t even begun to think about what could be next. We sat in silence for a few moments before I laughed and pointed to a building that I had never noticed before. The sign on it read, “Kosciusko Barber College“. “I could be a barber” I said through a held back laugh. Because barbers are men, right? “I’ll sign you up this week” he replied. And that was the beginning of it all. I had NEVER thought about doing hair let alone dreamed of doing it. In fact, I thought the woman that did my mom’s highlights when I was a kid had the worst job in the world! But, anyone who knows an entrepreneur knows that anything is an opportunity if you’re desperate enough. Luckily, I did find a talent and obsession for hair which fueled that entrepreneurial fire even more. When I realized that I could help women love what they saw in the mirror through extension services, it fanned the flame even more! This was it. I was going to take this thing as far as I could. And 8 years later Madison Taylor Extension Company was born.
Thanks, Babe. <3
